A new Dean of Lincoln has been appointed to oversee the day-to-day running of the city's cathedral.
Reverend Canon Dr Simon Jones occupied the interim position for nine months in 2013.
The 51-year-old said: 鈥淚 would like more people to see Lincoln Cathedral and for it to become their cathedral."
The Bishop of Lincoln, the Right Reverend Stephen Conway, confirmed King Charles III approved Canon Jones's nomination.
Canon Jones said: "It is wonderful to be back. I have grown to love Lincoln and the community."
He revealed he had been sworn to secrecy about the appointment.
鈥淭his is a crown appointment," he said. "I was not able to tell anyone. It has been a hard secret to keep."
Canon Jones succeeds the Very Reverend Christine Wilson following her resignation.
Bishop Conway said Canon Jones "brings scholarly and practical expertise".
He added: "We look forward to gaining his pastoral care and passion for the gospel. He brings a gift for apologetics which every cathedral needs."
