A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Tristan Sherry in a restaurant in the Republic of Ireland on Christmas Eve.

Mr Sherry, 26, died after he was assaulted during a gun attack at Browne's Steakhouse in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

22-year-old Michael Andrecut, with an address at Sheephill Avenue, was arrested by Garda铆 (Irish police) on Friday night.

He appeared at a special sitting of the Criminal Court of Justice on Saturday morning.

Det Sgt Mark Murphy told the court that Mr Andrecut made no reply to the charge after he was cautioned.

An application was made for free legal aid on behalf of Mr Andrecut.

Mr Andrecut was remanded into custody and is due to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday 2 February.

A man in his 40s who was shot at the restaurant remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Irish broadcaster RT脡 reported Mr Sherry was the gunman in the incident.
