An ice rink was cordoned off after a chemical leak in a plant room.

Fire crews were called at 09:35 BST to Oxford Ice Rink in Oxpens Road.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the leak was safely contained and crews imposed a 100m (330ft) cordon as a precaution.

The rink was closed to the public on Saturday for two weeks for work to re-lay the ice.

Five fire appliances were called to the scene, including a "decontamination and environmental protection unit".

More Leisure Community Trust, which manages the rink, said the "minor ammonia leak" was caused by a loose valve that was later fixed.

In a statement it said: "Staff at the ice rink were evacuated as a precaution while the incident was investigated, but at no point were any employees in danger.

鈥淲e now look forward to reopening the centre with brand-new re-laid ice, on 30 August as planned.鈥
