Plans for new speed limits have been put forward following a planning consultation.

Residents in Derbyshire have been asked to respond to a range of questions about speed limits on the A61 from Chesterfield to Alfreton.

The county council is now planning to reduce the speed limit around Watchorn roundabout to 40mph.

Proposals also include extending the 30mph zone to include the village in Higham and to cover the 90-degree bend.

The plans do not include any changes to the speed limits along Clay Cross or towards Chesterfield.

However the authority said these locations would be reviewed due to new house works in the area.

A total of 361 people gave feedback to the council during the consultation.

The speed limits have been reviewed in line with government and national guidance, the council added.

The council says it will be advertising the proposals to allow anyone who wants to comment on the changes to do so.
