Three people were taken to hospital with knife wounds after a fight at a bus station.
Northumbria Police said it was called to Blyth bus station, in Northumberland, shortly after 00:50 GMT.
It said three men were found with non-life threatening knife injuries and taken to hospital. Two have since been discharged, the force said.
A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack and was in custody.
Cordons remain in place in parts of the town, the force said, including one around the bus station.
"An investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances and locate those involved," a spokesman said.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service said its critical care team had been "activated" at 01:03 GMT following reports of an assault in the Bridge Street area of Blyth.
It said its team had worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to treat three patients.
Bus operator Arriva North East said the bus station was closed due to "a police incident", with services instead leaving from a number of locations including Union Street, Regent Street and Oddfellow Arms bus stop.
