A man who repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a young girl over the course of nearly a decade has been jailed for 18 years.

Sean Dooley, 57, from Bradford, had earlier been found guilty at a trial of two counts of rape of a child and three counts of sexual assault of a child.

He was also found guilty of two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of assault by penetration of a child.

Dooley, of Shirley Manor Gardens, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on Monday and also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

'Profound impact'

Det Sgt Hannah Andrews, of the Bradford child safeguarding unit, said: "These were horrendous offences committed over a sustained period against a child victim.

鈥淭his abuse has robbed the victim of her childhood and understandably had a profound lasting impact into adulthood."

The victim had shown "immense courage" coming forward to report the crimes to the police, Det Sgt Andrews added.

"I hope Dooley鈥檚 conviction and imprisonment brings her some comfort as she continues to move forward with her life."
