Sussex Police officer charged with assault

A Sussex police officer has been charged with assault on members of the public while off duty.
Dale Hughes, 29, is charged with two counts of assault, being drunk and disorderly and harassment following an alleged incident in Worthing on 2 December.
The police constable is currently suspended from duty and is due to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on 26 March.
Sussex Police said it had referred the matter to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).
The IOPC has ordered a local investigation by the force's professional standards department.
Sussex Police said it would consider misconduct proceedings for Mr Hughes after criminal proceedings had concluded.
