A "truly depraved" man who raped, falsely imprisoned and robbed a woman has been jailed.

Haseeb Khalil, 27, of Flaxby Road, Sheffield, was sentenced to nine years and nine months for rape and a number of other offences at Sheffield Crown Court on 24 May.

His co-accused Amaad Yaseen, 27, of Stainforth Road, Sheffield, was sentenced to 20 months and four weeks in prison for theft from a shop, possession of a bladed knife in a public place, and failure to surrender to police.

The offences all took place in Darnall, Sheffield on 27 November last year.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to reports of two men being seen with a gun and a knife and while at the scene learned a robbery had taken place and a woman had been raped.

An investigation was launched and CCTV from the scene examined.

Officers then carried out a search of Khalil’s address and an item of Khalil’s clothing was seized from the scene and he and Yaseen were later charged.

Speaking after sentencing, Det Con Gareth Rees said: “Khalil’s shocking crime spree has caused untold misery for his victims, and I am pleased to see both him and his co-accused locked up.

“The nature of Khalil’s crimes, in which he raped and robbed his victim, is truly depraved and has been reflected in a long custodial sentence in which he will have almost a decade to reflect on the pain he has caused."

In addition to the charges of rape and false imprisonment, Khalil was also jailed for two counts each of robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with the intent to commit robbery, possession of a bladed knife in a public place, and theft from a shop.
