A teenager suffered life-threatening injuries after a serious assault involving a knife.

Essex Police said it was called to Chapel Road, Shoeburyness, before 23:45 BST on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said there was "no wider threat to the community".

A teenage boy was taken to hospital with a head injury.

“We understand that this is a concerning time for residents, but at this stage we believe there is no wider threat to the community," said Det Supt Ami Evins.

“I’d ask anyone who may know anything or can help our inquiry to contact us."

A cordon remained in place and some roads were closed to motorists and pedestrians.

The roads affected included Chapel Road and Horseshoe Crescent.
