A man has been charged with attempted murder following a fire in Newcastle last year.

The blaze broke out at a building on Stamfordham Road, Westerhope, on 23 May, with four people taken to hospital for treatment.

Northumbria Police have charged a 39-year-old man with three counts of attempted murder and one count of arson with intent to endanger life.

He was due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
