A man in his 30s has died after an explosion at a homeless hostel in Dubin.

The blast was reported at about 15:00 on Thursday at a Support Temporary Accommodation building operated by Depaul Ireland on Little Britain Street.

Residents of the building were evacuated and no other injuries have been reported.

Garda铆 (Irish police) said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Friday.

A cordon, as well as local traffic diversions, remain in place near the site of the blast.

Depaul, a charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, said it was a localised incident which was confined to one room.

It also confirmed that all service users who had been evacuated from the building had been given alternative accomodation.

"Our heart goes out to the service user who lost their life, as well as their family and service users who were in the building at the time," a statement said.

Depaul added no other service members were physically harmed in the blast.
