A Leicestershire school was placed into lockdown after a pupil attacked a teacher.

Police said officers were called to Lutterworth High School at about 13:00 BST on Thursday.

A boy was arrested in connection with the incident, the force said.

The school said no-one was injured and there was no truth to social media reports that a knife was involved.

Leicestershire Police said the boy had been helping them with their inquiries, and the investigation was ongoing.

Headteacher Julian Kirby said in a statement: "There was an incident at Lutterworth High School that necessitated a lockdown.

"All staff and students were safe, and nobody was harmed. Contrary to social media, there was no knife involved."
