Cheryl Cole out of V Festival and X Factor boot camp

  • Published

Singer Cheryl Cole has pulled out of V Festival and the boot camp stage of The X Factor, while she receives treatment for malaria, her spokeswoman has said.

Her spokeswoman said Cole, 27, was "making good progress" but medical advice prevented her from working.

She was admitted to hospital on Monday after collapsing, and was later diagnosed with malaria - thought to have been contracted in Tanzania.

On Friday she left intensive care and was transferred to a private clinic.

A spokesman for The X Factor confirmed Cole would not be attending the boot camp later this month.

"Our priority is to ensure Cheryl is fit and well before she returns to work and to give our contestants a fair and proper opportunity to compete in the show."

It is not yet known if a guest judge will be brought in to help with that part of the show.

Cole had already confirmed she was pulling out of all current work commitments, including her judging role on The X Factor.

Last week V Festival organisers had said they hoped she would still be able to perform at the two-day festival in August.

Cole spent six days in Tanzania, on Africa's east coast, with close friend Derek Hough following her split from England footballer Ashley.

She had been taking anti-malaria tablets but was still struck down with the disease, which is contracted through mosquito bites.

The X Factor auditions in Manchester were still held on Friday with a judging panel of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who is standing in for Dannii Minogue - who gave birth to a son this week.
