Proposal to improve A14 suspended

  • Published

Proposals to improve part of the A14 in Cambridgeshire have been suspended as part of government plans to save money.

The road would have been widened to six lanes between Cambridge and Huntingdon.

The £1.1 billion scheme was intended to reduce congestion on one of the busiest roads in the East of England and had been backed by businesses and MPs.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander said the last government had committed to "spend money it simply did not have".
