Cornwall Council must save almost 拢4m from its budget

  • Published

Cornwall Council is to review the services it provides after being told it must cut more than 拢3m from its budget this year.

Last month the chancellor announced that savings of 拢6bn needed to be made and that about 拢1.2bn of this should come from local authorities.

As a result, Cornwall Council has been told to cut its budget by 0.7%, which will enable it to save about 拢3.8m.

Cornwall Council Leader Alec Roberts said services would be reviewed.

"I think realistically we are going to have to start looking at what services are being provided," he added.

"The council's essential frontline services we will always try to protect, support and improve.

"We are going to have to look at those extra services which we have had the luxury of providing in the past which we probably cannot afford to continue providing in the future."
