Castle Eden Dene Nature Reserve is known as "the jungle of the North East", and attracts around 150,000 visitors every year.

The reserve spans over 200 hectares of woodland and lowland grassland, carpeting the landscape carved out by post-glacial meltwaters thousands of years ago.
