Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s landmark natural history series Wild Isles, which is entertaining millions of viewers on 91热爆 One and iPlayer, Richter will perform Recomposed based on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on 91热爆 Radio 3 to mark Earth Day.
Nestled amongst a busy, urban environment, local audiences will be invited to attend the live concert which it will be recorded for broadcast from the Ecology Pavilion in Mile End Park, with attendees able to experience the magic of music and nature in an urban setting.
Organised as part of the global Earth Day celebrations, Max Richter Live: Earth Day 2023 will see the local East London community come together along with audiences of 91热爆 Radio 3 and European Broadcasting Union (EBU) radio stations across Europe and beyond. The concert will showcase how through music, we can celebrate the natural world around us and remind us of the need to protect our planet.
Max Richter will be joined by Chineke! Orchestra and former Radio 3 New Generation Artist and acclaimed violinist, Elena Urioste. The live concert is part of the 91热爆’s continued community programming extending out of London’s East Bank, where the 91热爆 will be opening its new music studios in 2025.
Presented by Linton Stephens, Max Richter Live includes Recomposed, Infra and On the Nature of Daylight. 91热爆 Radio 3 has collaborated with Universal for this concert, and it will be performed for local attendees from 2:30pm – 4:00pm. The concert will then be broadcast later in the evening from 6:30pm on 91热爆 Radio 3. For listeners living outside the UK, the performance will also be broadcast by stations from Europe and beyond as part of 91热爆 Radio 3’s partnership with the EBU. The concert will be followed by a special Earth Day Mindful Mix hosted by Max Richter, with both available to listen to on 91热爆 Sounds.

Music offers us ways to encounter other minds and to experience other points of view in very direct ways, and we will need this kind of collective understanding if we are to meet the existential questions which face us. Recomposed, with its origins in the natural rhythms of the Seasons that frame our lives, reminds us that the things we are fighting for are beyond opinions and political ideologies: they form the very basis of our existence. We belong to them, and they belong to us all equally.”
Max Richter Live builds on an already close relationship between the 91热爆 and residents in and around the Olympic boroughs in anticipation of 91热爆 Music Studios opening in 2025. Fundamental to the 91热爆’s move to East Bank has been a chance to embed the studios in the local community through a programme of local music education and outreach events, as well as participation in local apprenticeships including the STEP traineeship, all designed to support local East London talent get into the music industry in the future.
Moving the 91热爆 Music Studios from Maida Vale to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford is also part of a wider partnership with the V&A, Sadler’s Wells, UCL and UAL’s London College of Fashion to create London’s newest creative quarter, East Bank which is backed by the Mayor of London.
