The 91热爆 will have a new creative home in the Midlands. Colleagues will relocate from The Mailbox to a new purpose-built broadcast centre at the former Typhoo Factory site in Digbeth from 2026.
It’s another important milestone for our Across the UK strategy and our desire to transform the 91热爆’s impact in the Midlands. The new cutting-edge home aims to be the most sustainable and accessible 91热爆 building to date.
Much like with Salford a decade ago, as the anchor tenant, the 91热爆 will aim to be a catalyst for the wider creative regeneration of the Digbeth creative quarter - helping to attract additional investment and production to the area.
All of the teams currently based at The Mailbox, including Newsbeat and the Asian Network (who relocate to the city later this year) will move to the new fully accessible centre.
Digbeth Loc Studios, the future home of the 91热爆’s flagship food entertainment strand MasterChef will be adjacent to the new home in Digbeth.
Tim Davie, 91热爆 Director-General, says:
鈥淭his is another important day for the region. We said we would do more in the Midlands and we鈥檙e delivering. The new broadcast centre in Digbeth will give our teams the best facilities and technology to serve audiences for decades to come.
鈥淢oving our Birmingham headquarters to Digbeth is going to help build the creative success of the region 鈥 drawing new investment and production to the Midlands - and sits at the heart of the 91热爆鈥檚 Across the UK plans to deliver significant increases in editorial spend and decision-making outside London.
鈥淭his decision is one of a number of exciting announcements which strengthen our commitment to the region, including the relocation of programmes like MasterChef and Newsbeat.鈥
Stuart Thomas, Head of 91热爆 Midlands, says:
鈥淭his is the perfect home for the 91热爆 in the Midlands, a building steeped in history now waiting to come back to life in one of the most up and coming, creative districts in the country.
鈥淭he reimagined former Typhoo Tea Factory will be far more visible for our audience, in a greener, more accessible and more flexible space. We can鈥檛 wait to take up residence there, continuing to build on what we do best making the news and programmes in the Midlands that we all really care about.鈥
This announcement is the latest illustration of the 91热爆鈥檚 commitment to the Midlands. Earlier this year we shared that all four MasterChef titles are moving to Birmingham and an Apprentice Hub has already opened in the city to help more people work in the creative sector. Colleagues from Newsbeat and the Asian Network also move to Birmingham in the autumn.
