91热爆 Music Studios will be opening in 2025 and will be located at London's East Bank, the new cultural and education district at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It will be our new destination for world-class music making, establishing a home for our musicians to perform, record and broadcast a diverse mix of music to audiences in the UK and across the world.
The topping out ceremony, which marks the completion of the concrete structure, was commemorated with the first live performance at the site, with East London-born and 91热爆 Music Introducing singer and songwriter Hak Baker and Principal Trombone at the 91热爆 Symphony Orchestra, Helen Vollam performing a unique collaborative composition of Baker’s latest single, Bricks in the Wall.
The performance, which saw a fusion of rap, pop and classical, echoes the ambition of the new music studios, which will be a home for the 91热爆 Singers, 91热爆 Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, rock and pop sessions, 91热爆 music education and outreach as well as one of the largest sheet music collections in the world.
The studios will also house music sessions from the likes of Radio 1 Live Lounge through to 91热爆 Proms rehearsals, Radio 3 concerts, and special performances from the 91热爆 Pop music stations, with the public invited to attend and experience many of them live.
Radio 3 Controller Alan Davey said: 鈥淲e are thrilled to celebrate the next chapter in the 91热爆鈥檚 history with the topping out ceremony of the 91热爆 Music Studios. Making amazing, world-class music for all our audiences is our mission - across all genres - and to mark this occasion with the first live performance at the studios during our centenary year feels very special indeed.鈥
"Hak Baker and Helen Vollam鈥檚 musical collaboration is emblematic of the diversity integral to our musical offer, and the new studios will be a brilliant opportunity for artists, the public and the local community to collaborate together and build a new musical legacy at the heart of East Bank.鈥
Fundamental to the 91热爆鈥檚 move to East Bank has been a chance to embed the studios in the local community through a programme of local music education and outreach events, as well as participation in local apprenticeships including the STEP traineeship, all designed to support local East London talent get into the music industry in the future.
