The Government has announced that it will grant 91热爆 World Service additional, emergency, funding to support our important Ukrainian and Russian language services.
91热爆 World Service will receive an additional £4.1 million in emergency funding to help it continue to bring independent, impartial and accurate news to people in Ukraine and Russia and create content to counter disinformation about the war in Ukraine.
As well using the funding to expand our valuable content, it will also help us to carry on relocating staff and operations to safe locations, and help local audiences circumvent media restrictions in Russia and continue to access the 91热爆’s journalism.
Welcoming the Government’s announcement of £4.1m emergency funding, 91热爆 Director-General Tim Davie said: “I am hugely proud of our coverage and the bravery and resilience of our colleagues reporting this difficult and complex story, day in, day out.
“This additional funding from the government will enable us to continue expanding the ways we are reaching audiences in Russia and Ukraine. The 91热爆 has seen a big demand for clear, fact-based, impartial journalism to counter disinformation and our teams are working around the clock to bring people the very best independent journalism.
“This funding will also help us with the immediate need to support staff who have been displaced, many of whom are continuing to work and provide vital expertise to the whole of the 91热爆, while life changes dramatically around them. We pay tribute to their incredible strength and professionalism.”
The Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said: “The bravery of its journalists in tackling Russian state propaganda from a warzone shows the 91热爆 at its very best.
“Just as in the darkest days of the Second World War, the world service is a global beacon of truth to millions. In the face of a brutal crackdown on free media this funding will help it continue to bring accurate and impartial news about Putin’s appalling crimes to the very people he aims to deceive.”
