Filming Tips

Festival goer

How to get the best from your phone

We want you to send us your festival clips filmed on your phone for Shoot The Summer. Shoot things that you think will give a flavour of your festival experience. If you have an interesting story to tell film it.

Tips

  • Plan your shots before hitting record
  • Frame your shot well
  • Get close up to capture good audio and avoid background noise
  • Hold the camera as still as possible whilst filming
  • Avoid zoom - move closer to the subject if necessary
  • Shoot outdoors for better light and avoid shooting into the sun
  • Keep your fingers away from the lens
  • Whilst panning move the camera slowly. Mobile cameras don't cope well with fast panning
  • Get Creative

Experiment with your phone to get some really creative shots. The beauty of shooting with mobile is that you can get your phone in places a camcorder wouldn't get.

In order to see this content you need to have both enabled and installed. Visit for full instructions

5 Creative Ideas 1. Strap your phone to something that might give you extra height (such as a helium balloon on a string or a flagpole) 2. Attach it to a moving object - like yourself. Wear it around your neck and go for a walk 3. Shoot from as many different angles as possible to create interesting shots 4. Shoot the same thing from different angles using 2 phones 5. Some phones have time-lapse facility. Try making a scene using a series of stills

Always take care whilst filming. Avoid walking whilst watching the screen if attaching your phone to something make sure it's secure.
