Outreach work in East London
91热爆 Radio 1 and 1Xtra and 91热爆 Learning will be partnering with a number of organisations to build a series of unique collaborations and a comprehensive programme of outreach work in the local area which will inspire, educate and create opportunities for the young people of East London, as well as giving them a voice on the 91热爆. The four ambassadors – Leona Lewis, Trevor Nelson, Phillips Idowu and Plan B – will all be heavily involved in the projects.
91热爆 Radio 1
Every young person in the area is invited to come along to the Academy, which will be 91热爆 Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s base in Hackney throughout June. The Academy will open its doors on Friday 1 June, staying open until the start of the main event. It will offer workshops and sessions on a range of subjects including business, the arts, career development, and media skills including radio production and journalism.
Much of this activity will be filmed and made available for the rest of the UK at bbc.co.uk/radio1.
Inspiring And Celebrating Young UK
91热爆 Radio 1 will work with youth organisations across the UK to identify inspiring young people. They have made 2012 tickets to the main event available to give to young people who have done some brilliant and inspirational work for their communities, friends and families.
Celebrating East London Art And Music
91热爆 Radio 1 will be shining a spotlight on young East Londoners and giving them a platform to showcase their talents at the main event. They will be handing over the creative look and feel of the Hackney Marshes site to the young people of East London. Working with local artists, art groups and schools from across the six Olympic Boroughs, Radio 1 will give them the space and support to be able to make their own mark on the main event. In addition, every single space on the line-up of the 91热爆 Introducing stage will be filled by unsigned and undiscovered East London musicians and acts.
There will be many other initiatives happening around Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend, including community radio partnerships, volunteering opportunities and a festival in June which will be curated by the young people of Hackney. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
