New Music 20x12
91Èȱ¬ Radio 3’s Hear And Now will exclusively broadcast works commissioned by New Music 20x12.
This Cultural Olympiad initiative delivered by PRS for Music Foundation presents 20 new musical works, each lasting 12 minutes, by some of the UK’s leading composers from across a range of music genres, all of which will be featured on Hear And Now in 2012. Each composer has been commissioned to capture the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Premières will take place the length and breadth of the UK at concert halls, arts centres, festivals, public spaces and, for one première, a prison – culminating in a weekend of performances at London’s Southbank Centre in July 2012.
Leading voices in the field of contemporary classical music, including Mark-Anthony Turnage, Sally Beamish and Howard Skempton, have been commissioned along with dynamic names from the worlds of jazz (Jason Yarde and Julian Joseph) and folk (Aidan O’ Rourke, Sheema Mukherjee), to name but a few of the commissioned composers.
New Music 20x12 was initiated by David Cohen and Jillian Barker and is delivered by the PRS for Music Foundation in partnership with the 91Èȱ¬, Locog, Sound and Music and NMC Recordings.
