From sheep pen to farmyard

Vaxuhall City Farm is home to two black Wensleydale Sheep, a rare breed native to the Yorkshire Moors and renowned for their magnificent fleeces.

Lamby, the smaller ewe, is two years old and gave birth to two lambs, a boy and a girl called Colin and Patti, in the early morning of 6th April 2009.

Three-year-old Espresso is the larger ewe, and has also given birth to two lambs - both girls. They were born on the morning of 9th April 2009.

In early April, 91热爆 London streamed live video from the sheep pen but we are now switching the focus to the farmyard where a greater variety of animals can be seen.

Vauxhall City Farm

It鈥檚 hard to believe that next to the traffic chaos of Vauxhall Junction is a working farm.

Vauxhall City Farm was founded in 1977 by volunteers eager to transform a derelict patch of land into 'an oasis of country life in the heart of London.' Today it is home to alpacas, horses, pigs, sheep, cows and smaller animals such as chickens, rabbits and ferrets.

The farm, which continues to be largely dependent on volunteers, also has a classroom for school visits, an ecology garden, a duck pond and an arena that offers horse-riding lessons.

Vauxhall City Farm is open to the public, Wednesday to Sunday 10.30am to 4pm. Entry is free but donations are welcome.
