91热爆

Tony's first 'broadcast' in 1968 was interrupted by a mouse in the back room of his father's fishing tackle shop in Northgate street Leicester.

When the 91热爆 decided to launch their first local radio station in the city, Tony's father began to contribute with his son deputising when he was on holiday.

Tony eventually found himself working as a freelancer to not only 91热爆 Radio Leicester, but also Radio's 1, 2, 4 and the World Service - the complete spectrum!

This was all whilst he continued to work in the family business in conjunction with broadcasting.

Tony has since won several awards, notably a SONY award - the radio industry's equivalent of the Oscars. This was for the 'Best Local Radio Programme' which featured the terminal weeks of a teenager diagnosed with Leukaemia.

Other awards include:

• A SONY bronze award for the 'Regional/Metropolitan Station of the Year' as senior producer of programmes for 91热爆 WM.
• An award of distinction for the 'promotion of cancer research'.
• The Telstar award from the Planetary Society for the 'promotion of space science' with Julie Mayer.
• A special mention in the Queen Mother's Birthday Awards for an anti-litter campaign with Julie Mayer.
• A 'Best New Initiative' award by the Institute of Money Advisers in recognition of on-air debt management advice with Adam Markillie from Leicester Money Advice.

In 1991, he was appointed Programme Organiser at 91热爆 WM and returned to 91热爆 Radio Leicester after a 14 year hiatus.
