I was 21 in 1967 and worked as a typist/book-keeper/wages clerk for an engineering company in Sunderland. I was married in that year, so I was also a houswife.There were six other females in the office, but the company employed about forty people altogether.
My working hours were from 9.00 am to 5.00pm/ monday to friday with an hour for lunch. I had to travel about six miles each way every day and travelled by bus. No uniform was worn. I really enjoyed going to work, and because it was a small company I had a variety of duties, so it was never monotonous. More...
