Your Story: Housewife and a factory worker

My day started by cooking breakfast and then taking the children to the local playschool. Then I came home to do the cooking, cleaning, ironing and other household chores. I enjoyed being a housewife and worked seven days a week, sometimes up to 15 hours a day.

John worked at the Spillers factory on the river Tyne serving his apprenticeship. It was very hard work and the conditions were not very nice, it was long hours and low pay. I only worked there for a short time before moving on to the building trade which was better paid.
