One of the first things I asked for in Rome in Italian was a slice of pizza from one of the many small pizza shops. As I was vegetarian at the time I asked for senza carne - without meat.The woman looked at me strangely and I realised that being unable to roll the r in carne, what I had asked for was a slice of pizza without dog - cane!!
