Can you dig it? (French/English)

I was with my French boy-friend and he was trying to describe "dig" so he kept making the motion of digging. He was getting frustrated as I kept saying ²ú곦³ó±ð°ù, to dig. No no no, so I realize he wanted the word shovel. Everytime I would say shovel, he would say "no not horse!" I say yes, shovel! He says: You do not dig with a horse! I never realized if you say shovel in English it sounds like cheval in French.

You could have drawn a picture in the air/dirt. It's really easy to understand pictures.
