If you want to splash out and spend an extra 拢45 to 拢55, then the following items will come in handy:

• Set of five paint brushes: 1in, 1.5in, 2in, 2.5in, 3in
• Roller and tray with three removable roller heads
• Stud detector
• Large adjustable spanner

You never know when you might be required to undertake emergency DIY. The key to a fast and efficient solution is to purchase a small number of essential items, and to store these in logical locations around the home. We recommend the following preparations:

1. Always keep small tools and spares, such as a bleed key for radiators, electrical test screwdriver, fuse wire and pliers, in a small kitchen drawer. This will save time finding your tool box for small jobs and prevent panic when a fuse blows. Don't forget to return them to the drawer after use though!
2. Buy a small (9"x12") sectioned storage box (available from DIY stores) and purchase a selection of fuses (3 amp, 5 amp, 13 amp), double and single hooks, curtain hooks and a roll of insulation tape (black). These are some of the most common items used in every home. Place these items in a kitchen drawer, as above.
3. Keep a torch by the fuse board with a packet of spare batteries. If the lights go out you will always have to go to the fuse board, so you'll know where to find the torch.
