After the frantic years of the blitz, Hitler turned his attention elsewhere and things quietened down in our area for the remaining duration of the war, though no doubt much went on undercover.

The shortages bit deep into life, but most people whilst grumbling, made the best of things, and began to realise how much safer we were than so many people. In this country, London and the south suffered dreadfully from raids, and there was terrible suffering in many parts of the world which we only knew about after the war.

This story was collected by Lis Edwards and was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Becky Barugh of the 91热爆 Radio Shropshire CSV Action Desk on behalf of Mrs Margaret James. The story has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.
