I remember a rather funny incident when we had an incendiary bomb down one of our bedroom chimneys. It landed in my brother鈥檚 room and when he went in there he found it sizzling in the grate. With great presence of mind he grabbed a bucket of sand which we always kept on the landing and doused the thing. The house was empty and if he hadn鈥檛 happened to go in for something the bomb would probably have burnt the house down! I have the tailfin to this day, and I think my brother has the metal case, which Dad converted into a holder for a poker after the war. (I recalled this incident after talking to my sister)
