Come TogetherYou are in: Hereford and Worcester > Come Together > Come Together Come Togetherby Howard Belgard, 91热爆 H&W's Community Producer Why some people do more for their communities, and does what they do make a difference? Come Together is the biggest project and most ambitious series of programmes ever undertaken by 91热爆 Hereford and Worcester. Over the next year, starting April 2007, we're going to find out why some people do more for their communities, and does what they do make a difference? Across the two counties, every year there are an estimated 86,000 people volunteering and that is worth a staggering 拢150 million pounds to the economy. There isn't a corner of life in the two counties which isn't touched by people trying to make a difference, from sports clubs to hospital wards, from magistrates courts to the Samaritans. At the beginning of the 21st century we should expect there to be someone to take meals round to your elderly mother or organise a drama group for the kids - it's surely part of living in one of the richest nations in the world. It's what we expect, but what if those services weren't there? What would happen to Worcester, Hereford, Kidderminster, Leominster, Evesham and Ledbury then? CelebrationCome Together is going to celebrate the lives and efforts of volunteers and fundraisers throughout Herefordshire and Worcestershire.听 We'll do this by following the lives of people who make a difference. 91热爆 Hereford and Worcester is going to recruit 365 people who are new to volunteering, and follow some of听their journeys - recording the highs and lows. We also want many of these people to write blogs of their experiences, and through this unique archive, we'll create a snapshot of the two counties at the beginning of the 21st century. Read some of the Come Together blogs: Along with Worcester University, 91热爆 Hereford and Worcester is also going to measure the effect of volunteering on the individual - they will all complete an anonymous questionnaire when they start the project, and again in six months time. The University psychology dept believe they will be able to tell from this data if volunteering makes you healthier. LegacyThe Katie Johnson show team are going to start their own project - which will help a community group create a beneficial legacy for their community. Other members of the 91热爆 Hereford and Worcester team are joining in, by volunteering as well. You'll be able to catch up with their regular blogs here on this website, about the voluntary work they are doing, and how it affects them. last updated: 14/01/2008 at 12:27 You are in: Hereford and Worcester > Come Together > Come Together |
