Part 2 Got to the Swan Theatre an hour before the session and helped with chairs and table I have to admit being a little nervous, it's true I can broadcast to hundreds of thousands of people in a studio and feel like a duck in water, here, it's a different proposition. The students started to trickle in about 10 minutes before and by the time we started 22 had arrived, a great success on attendance. The session started with the review technique for TV and Newspapers, then my turn. The 45 minute session went well and after they'd discussed the film and prepared a review they delivered it with authority and confidence. The Q and A session was lively and interesting too - I have to say it made me feel good about being able to give time to young people who are genuinely interested and to share my experiences with them. My next project is writing and perfoming for younger children under 10 years which is a whole new challenge. Part 1 Now that I've decided to volunteer for the Re-Act project I am a little concerned having heard all those comments about teenagers being a nightmare to inspire, especially in the presence of their peers. I've selected a short pixar film which at 10 minutes with no dialogue should be enough of a challenge for them to review. Visually there's loads to discuss so hopefully they'll be inspired enough to speak up with their opinions as well as being enthused enough to take in the three step theory to reviewing that I've prepared. I've spoken to Julie who's leading the scheme and she's given me pointers on the best ways to engage the group. We are hoping for a good 20 or so tomorrow so fingers crossed. |
