World War IIYou are in: Hampshire > History > Local History > World War II > D-Day 65 on 91热爆 Radio Solent  The Normandy landings D-Day 65 on 91热爆 Radio Solent91热爆 Radio Solent will bring you the key events, memories and emotions as the 65th anniversary of D-Day is commemorated both here and in northern France. In June 1944 thousands of Allied forces left the South Coast of England to begin the听 liberation of Nazi-occupied Europe.听 Sixty five years on, 91热爆 Radio Solent will bring you the events and atmosphere as the world remembers the achievement and sacrifice of one of the biggest military campaigns ever mounted. Reporter Jo Palmer will be travelling with a group of D-Day veterans from the New Forest as they make their emotional return to northern France to mark the anniversary and remember fallen colleagues.
There will be regular听live reports from remembrance ceremonies at听 Arromanche and Berni猫res-sur-Mer as well as a visit to the famous Pegasus Bridge - a crucial landmark which was captured early on in the campaign - crucial to the success of whole D-Day operation. Meanwhile, on the 'home front', the South Coast will be at the centre of commemorations on Saturday 6 June. 91热爆 Radio Solent will be at West Battery Gardens and Castle Field in Southsea for the city's giant D-Day party, as well as at other D-Day picnics at Christchurch and Weymouth in Dorset.
