Storing water
Water is a valuable resource, so conserve as much as you can by saving rainwater and by re-using water from the house. This is especially important if there鈥檚 a hosepipe ban.
Rainwater
Rainwater is free from lime, so if you鈥檙e growing ericaceous, acid-loving plants, such as rhododendrons, in containers in a hard-water area, water with rainwater.
Water buttWater barrel
Always a good back up - collect and store rainwater from a downpipe in a barrel or wall-mounted butt.

Rain diverter
A rain diverter and a hose are useful for moving stored water around the garden.
Capillary matting
Capillary matting is a bit like felt, and is usually used in greenhouses and conservatories, where you stand pots on it. The matting sucks water from a reservoir of saved water, and the roots suck it up into the pot. It is great for standing your houseplants on when you go away.
