From director Tsui Hark comes a magnificent sweeping Hong Kong epic martial arts drama that's as beautiful to watch as it is exciting. Fans will be delighted by the DVD release this dramatic film receives.
Rich art design dominates the look of the film, and the picture transfer to disc really captures these shades with stunning detail.
The 5.1 sound mix tends to stick to the front speakers and doesn't offer much in the way of steering effects. It does utilise the musical score well though, and Donnie Yen's introductory scene as the bad guy of the movie causes a dramatic ripple across the speakers.
Hong Kong Cinema expert Bey Logan is once again on hand for another of his exceptionally knowledgeable audio commentaries. He discusses the effect of the movie on Hong Kong film-making and the resurgence in period movies that it inspired including "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".
Included on the DVD is footage from a UK question and answer seassion with Jet Li when he was promoting "Romeo Must Die". He reveals that people are always surprised at how much smaller he is in real life compared to his screen persona in "Lethal Weapon 4". Additionally he answers questions on his upcoming action thriller "Kiss of the Dragon", directed by Luc Besson.
Donnie Yen is also interviewed and he has a lot to say on the choreography and what can really be performed versus the tricks utilised in some scenes. The usual Hong Kong Legends extras also feature including a photo gallery, trailers, and a detailed animated star biography.
