About This Event
A series of classical tales, from the Iliad to the Inferno, via the Ramayana and the Sagas have been recast by modern poets. Sean O’Brien, Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University, has written a version of Dante’s Inferno, and of Aristophanes’ The Birds. Sandeep Parmar is a Professor of English Literature at the University of Liverpool; her poetry includes the classical rewrite Helen of Troy in America. Tying in with the Proms Brandenburg Project, they discuss finding the right words and images when rewriting classics in a modern idiom and what it means to work on something which is well known.
Edited version broadcast on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 3 during tonight's interval.
