Concert Information
Andrew Manze鈥檚 love of Baroque music is famous, and his revelatory cycle of Vaughan Williams symphonies has been a real highlight of recent 91热爆 SSO seasons. Tonight he devotes his artistry and charisma to a different, very personal enthusiasm: the gloriously vibrant music of the great Swedish symphonist Wilhelm Stenhammar. Imagine the energy of Sibelius combined with the freshness and melody of Grieg, and you鈥檒l get some idea of Stenhammar鈥檚 First Symphony. It鈥檚 a real rediscovery, and the ideal complement to Beethoven鈥檚 most brilliant Piano Concerto, played by Steven Osborne who, in this concert, concludes his acclaimed complete cycle with us.
