Three Centuries of Women Composers - Monday
This week, for the first time, every note in Afternoon Concert was written by a woman. In recordings from all of the 91热爆 orchestras and choirs, we celebrate female creativity with music spanning 300 years and traversing the globe.
In today's collection - the eighteenth-century Italian violinist and composer Maddalena Sirmen and contemporary composers Linda Catlin Smith and Onute Narbutaite from Canada and Lithuania. Plus, we hear recordings from the archives of the 91热爆 Radio 3 New Generation Artist scheme, including Ethel Smyth's epic double concerto, written in 1927.
Presented by Fiona Talkington.
