West London singer-songwriter Rukhsana Merrise is a folk artist with a difference. Her songs are rooted in traditional music, but they have contemporary production and somewhere within them you can hear both classic soul, like Minnie Riperton, and contemporary RnB, such as Chris Brown, who she has covered. Merrise uploaded songs from her debut EP, September Songs, eight months ago and attracted the attention of 91Èȱ¬ Introducing in London, which supported the EP’s opening track, So They Say.
Another song from the EP, See You Again, has clocked up an impressive 150,000 plays on Soundcloud and she arrives at Glastonbury off the back of playing shows with Leon Bridges, Laura Mvula and Jack Garratt - three artists that she has plenty in common with.
