Prom 72: English Music
19:30
Wed 10 Sep 2014
Royal Albert Hall
An evening of 20th-century English music that looks beyond pastoral stereotypes. The nostalgic idyll of Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on ‘Greensleeves’ is soon abandoned for the brutality of his Symphony No. 4 and Birtwistle’s Exody – a terrifying musical labyrinth. Walton’s much-loved Viola Concerto is played here by rising star and 91Èȱ¬ Radio 3 New Generation Artist Lise Berthaud.
