Ewa Wawrzyniak makes glass art Ewa goes on to talk about her art and how to create the effects she gets with glass: "We cut the glass to the correct size and cleaned it. Then its a combination of enamels, glass powders and copper oxide. Then a little bit of water is added to create a watery pattern," she says. "Then when its fired to 830掳c in the kiln it creates a watery movement in the glass, as if its in the sea."听听 Classes are run in Ewa's studio by the artist. Members of the public can come and learn to create their own glass art. Glass art from Parndon Mill Hannah Shine first learnt about glass art by attending an introduction talk with another artist locally. Making some glass art "I met Ewa at an exhibition in Newmarket and was really impressed by her work. So, I decided to do a day rather than just evening classes with her," said Hannah. Another student is Diane Widowson. She's been learning about glass art for around two years. The piece she is working on will eventually be a bowl: "It'll sit in the window of my dining room and the light will shine through the glass and make it look very pretty." Diane says she tries to choose colours for her work that match her living room lounge. Roger Lee helps to run the centre Parndon Mill's general manager is Roger Lee and he says the place has plenty of history and arts heritage: "Since 1968 Parndon Mill has been a centre for arts and crafts, we have 27 studios for crafts people, graphic designers architects and a fine art gallery." The gallery is a fairly new addition to the building as Roger explains: "We started the gallery in 2004 to represent not only the artists here at Parndon Mill, but other artists from the local area." last updated: 08/05/2009 at 14:46 You are in: Essex > Entertainment > Arts & Culture > Made in Harlow |
