The launch of Parndon Mill's latest exhibition coincides with the first anniversary of the Gallery. The venture has been successful in what it set out to do which was to provide a showcase for the many talented artists and craftsmen who live and work in West Essex and East Hertfordshire, and to attract interest and give pleasure to many visitors from Harlow and the surrounding area including those who are less familiar with the arts.
Last year's Christmas exhibition presented a collection of local talent, this year approximately 24 artists will each display a representative selection of work.Ìý Different media and styles will complement each other.Ìý Paintings range from hard edge abstract through rich impressions of landscape to the purely representational.Ìý Artists who use photography and the computer have created images which are quite breathtaking.Ìý Ceramics is a medium which offers endless opportunities.Ìý The exhibition includes excellently crafted practical ware, intriguing smoke fired vessels and pieces which can be described as "whacky".Ìý
Glass is probably the most beautiful and seductive of media for the craftsman and this year three more artists are exhibiting pieces which exploit the transparency and colour of glass.Ìý They cross the border between craft and fine art. The glass exhibited in Present Arts is a taster for a major presentation of glassworks which will be one of the exciting exhibitions planned for 2006 at The Gallery at Parndon Mill.Ìý The exhibition runs from 10th November - 24th December, the gallery is open 10am - 6pm on weekdays, 10am-4pm on Saturdays and 2pm-4pm on Sundays.
