Discovering Porthleven,is one of those secrects that you don't want to share, we were very fortunate to have a wonderful Aunt and Uncle, Mary & Ted Johns who lived in Porthleven and gave us the oppertunity of visiting for summer vacations. We fell in love with this beautiful village, it is so upspoilt, the scenery, artshop, tea rooms, cornish paties, cream scone, fish & chips, and the local football club, a leisurely stroll around the harbour watching the fishing boats bob up and down in the water, what tranquility, the friendliness of the people, especially all the local people whom we met over the years made us feel like one of their own, last but not least we would like to thank our cousins for always making us so welcome and making Porthleven a truly great place to stay. Hope to return again in the near future.

I was stationed at R.N.A.S.Culdrose when it was first opened in about 1947. I often went into Porthleven in my free time along with some mates and had a great time. It wasn't until 3 years ago I returned with my wife for two weeks holiday there. Nothing much had changed since those days. I also remember assisting the local farmers with the harvesting of their crops and getting involved in the preparation for the Floral dance in Helston, the idea being to help placate them for the loss of their land taken to build the airfield Happy days.

I will always remember Porthleven. I was stationed at R.N.A.S. Culdrose and our local was The Atlantic Inn, in Porthleven. Also it is truely a lovely place. I was stationed there for 2 years and loved every minute I spent there.

After years visiting the place for family holidays, I spent my last year at school living in Porthleven. Loved the place, the atmosphere, the shops, the sea wall. Nothing has ever beaten sitting on the quayside scoffing freshly cooked fish 'n' chips! Didn't know how lucky I was back then, but I surely do miss the sea now and look forward one day to sitting on that quayside again, watching the boats go out.

We've been going to Portheleven several times over the past years and are never tired of heading back there during the summer holidays. It is one of the nicest areas we've ever been to and a place where you can really relax.

I grew up in Chicago, but moved to London in 1974. My husband & I spent our Honymoon in Cornwall and a few subsequent holidays there too. We fell in love with Porthleven and the fish & chips there. We moved to Florida in 1987.I still miss, and remember the best fish & chips in the world being from the fish shop in Porthleven!

I love this village. We first stumbled across Porthleven on a Costal Camping holiday around Cornwall. We have holidayed here at least once a year since then, and always stay with our Friends, Jan & Frank at Seefar. Spent many happy evenings (and afternoons) sipping a lovely pint in either the Atlantic, Harbour Inn or the Ship. Bliss - I hope we make a permanent holiday someday. :-)The local folk are beatiful proud people and always friendly.

Simon, please call Okla'home'a. After looking at all the pictures here, I can see why Porthleven has captured your heart & spirit but do remember my dear, the mrs. misses you. You are a treasure, Emily

Porthleven - one of the most beautiful places I know! We have spent many happy weeks here since 1992 and enjoy everything from the sight and sound of the waves on the beach to the glorious sunsets and gardens in the vicinity - Trebah (our favourite)& Trelissick to name but two. Only ever had one bad experience and that was The Lost Gardens of Heligan - grossly over-rated - sorry Tim Smit but we will also give the Eden Project a miss. Much too commercialised!! NB: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOGS IN CARS IN HOT WEATHER and if you have dogs - only visit places where they are welcome.

Porthleven is a truly beautiful place. Was brought up in Newlyn but never visited Porthleven until a couple of years ago when my sisters and myself visited there to view the Memorial outside and to the west of the village on which our grandfather,Stanley Edyvean's,father, brother and uncle are mentioned relating to the loss of the Porthleven fishing boat, the "Miriam" in 1886.

I spent my 36th Birthday in Porthleven, with my family, we all agreed it was a magical and unspoiled place, praise indeed from a 13 and 9 year old! Hope to make it back there very soon!

We have "holidayed" in Porthleven for many years with our two Jack Russell terriers. On perusing your photos of Porthleven to choose one as a wallpaper - I'm sure that it is my old Nissan Bluebird estate on the quayside (behind the VW Beetle) complete with two JRT's! I would be very interested if whoever took the photograph could e-mail me with a copy of it (if I'm correct, it would be around 1996). Thanks in advance!

I spent a week in a loveley fishermans cottage behind the Ship Inn in 2000. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left the weather could only be described as stunning. I had one of the most enjoyable holidays of my life! Porthleven will always be dear to my heart as I got engaged to my now wonderful wife next to the cannon on the harbour. Cornwall really is a magical place and I return year after year.

I was down for a reunion for the Fleet Air Arm Field Gun Crew with a few friends. We were eating fish and chips by the harbour wall when a seagull dive bombed Punchy Stone (has only one arm) and stole his fish. Clever sods the Porthleven seagulls!

Amanda, Porthleven
I never forget how privileged I am to live in such a beautiful place.

Lauren from Porthleven
I really cannot think of myself living anywhere other than Porthleven. I was born in a little cottage in Porthleven and have lived in Porthleven ever since. Although the winter can be quite boring the summer really makes up for it.

Peter Brookes, Porthleven
It's nice to know that somewhere where you live gives so many people so much pleasure.

We lived in St.Just in Penwith from 1988 to 2001. While there we visited Porthvelen many times and never got tired of it. A really lovely, peaceful part of Cornwall. We also went to other localities and found them just as enchanting.

What a discovery!!! I have had a connection with Porthleven/Sithney going back to 1600 - 1700. Have also visited Porthleven many times. What wonderful pictures and what wonderful photographers!! Porthleven has a special place in my heart as do my Corhish friends. John James

I have family in Porthleven and have known it all my life! I can't think of a better to place to go and relax! It's a beautiful part of the Duchy!!!

Martin Hayden, Purley, Surrey
Just a quick note to say enjoyed the pictures of Porthleven but thought it strange that there wasn't a picture of the town's infamous wave. It is THE south coast wave in the right conditions and is one of the very few reef waves on the coast. It is awe inspiring and can be a beast of a wave getting up to 15 foot. Certainly when I hear the word Porthleven mentioned it is the first thing that comes into my mind.

I grew up in Cornwall. Every morning I would take the bus from Ashton to Helston Grammar School via Porthleven. At the time I did not appreciate the scenic beauty of the harbour. I certainly do now. When I visit my mother in Praa sands every summer I always make a point of visiting Porthleven. My favourite spots are the fish shop on the quay side and Harbour Inn and Atlantic Hotel bar. By the way, I was very suprised to see the Porthleven football team doing so well. I played for them in the late 1950s when they were in the Combination league.

Porthleven, a small fishing harbour on the south western coast of cornwall had been my families' holiday destination for many years. I am 17 now and can't remember going anywhere else. It is fantastic, brilliant panoramic views with breathtaking storms at the right time of the year! My ambition os to live there in the near future.... a truly magical place.
