After double checking the waves to make sure we weren't missing out, we headed down south to the old town of Monterey. Santa Barbara It was really different from anywhere around here in Santa Cruz and it had an old chilled out fishing vibe. The whole town had obviously once just evolved around its fishing and fish factories. I think it only recently changed when the oldest sardine factory became an aquarium and to this day, Number 8 of the top 10 best tourist attractions in California. Sunday 8th February 2009 - Diary 3The drive to Santa Barbara was amazing. We drove along the Big Sur coast which is a huge area of wilderness, mostly uninhabited which is not surprising seeing as it is a really wild environment. It could be Cornwall! But it's the Big Sur The terrain offers stunning views, making Big Sur a popular tourist destination. The coastline is so rocky and jagged that there is no surf-able waves or nice beaches. This is possibly a good thing considering when we reached the end of the stretch we came across a beach covered all over in Elephant seals. Now that we are in Santa Barbara we are closer to a number of different surf breaks an bang in the middle of town, so we can also stalk the celebrities for sure. Haha.
