Find out who grabbed the all important awards on the night which was held at the Barracuda in Newquay. It was only the second ever South West Drum & Bass Awards, but already it's gaining momentum in the clubbing world. More than 10,000 votes were cast across the ten categories and the results represented the opinions of the whole region's Drum & Bass fans. Partying at the awards Pic: Matt Smith Around 1,200 people witnessed the annual awards, where up and coming Cornish DJ, Klimax was voted the Best Drum & Bass DJ in the region. Best National DJ was Andy C, who repeated last years win, best National MC was Skibadee, who was at the event in person to collect his award. Best Producer was voted High Contrast, closely followed by Pendulum & TC, whose new album was released earlier in January. Moving on to the South West Awards, the surprise win of the night was for Best DJ, which went to DJ Klimax from Truro. Resident and promoter of monthly night, Pressure at L2, Truro, DJ Klimax has been playing across Cornwall for little over two years, but has certainly made a big impression on the scene. Last year's winner, DJ Mr Nice came third. Script MC successfully defended his title of Best South West MC for a second year running, whilst regular Exeter night, Rinseout also retained its title of Best Regular Night, promoted by Mr Nice. Success for DJ Klimax Pic: Matt Smith Best One-Off Event went to Slammin Vinyl's Westfest held at the Royal & Bath Showground, Nr Shepton Mallet every Autumn, with last year's actual Drum & Bass Awards event coming in a close second. Best Record Shop went to the long running Plymouth shop, Bigga Records, which continues to thrive despite the online music stores and downloads affecting other music retailers in the region. Last year's winner, Reform Records came second. Finally, the Outstanding Contribution award was extremely closely fought, with only ten votes separating runner up DJ Mastervibe, and the eventual winner,听 Plymouth's DJ Bossa, who has been running his Bassfunk nights for the past five years at venues across the region.
