I was distraught to hear my child had cancer, especially after first being told that nothing was wrong.

Mother Morowa

Radio 4 listeners generously donated £14,600 to World Child Cancer’s appeal to give children with cancer in developing countries the gift of growing up – thank you!

The support from the listeners of 91热爆 Radio 4 has been an enormous help to children like Likem, a one-year-old boy being treated for cancer at a hospital in Accra, Ghana. Morowa, Likem’s mother, told us how the family initially struggled to find out what was wrong with their son;

“We visited a local hospital where they carried out many tests, but we were eventually told nothing was wrong. We were told to improve his diet, but we sensed there was something more to it.”

It was only when the family were referred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which is supported by World Child Cancer, that the family were first told Likem had cancer.

Likem is now receiving treatment and his health is improving. He is playing with other children on the ward and enjoys colouring on the days he is feeling better.

Childhood cancer, if detected early enough, can be cured. Thanks to the generosity of Radio 4’s listeners we will be able to support the training of more healthcare professionals and raise awareness in local communities to spot the early warning signs. Through your generosity we can give more children like Likem a faster route to better treatment,

Thank you to all of the Radio 4 donors, for helping us change lives of children around the world with cancer for the better by giving them the gift of growing up.
