Unseen’s vision is a world without slavery. We support survivors, inform frontline professionals and influence legislation to end this heinous crime
91热爆 Radio 4 listeners donated an amazing total of £23,217 to Unseen following our appeal in September. Thank you to everyone who donated!
Unseen’s Radio 4 Appeal focused on the huge rise in child trafficking in the UK. Historian, David Olusoga, told Radio 4 listeners of the shocking disappearance of trafficked children, who have been rescued and placed into care. Most return to their traffickers. The appeal focused on two trafficked children, Daniel and Adam, whose lives took drastically different paths after exploitation.
Aware of the growing need to protect rescued children from further harm, Unseen opened its first safehouse for trafficked children this year. Adam, a child who had been found distressed and alone in the back of a lorry, arrived at the house several months ago. Based on Unseen’s well established safehouses, this new service provides round the clock support via a team of experts.
Adam is slowly learning to trust adults again and is getting the therapy he needs. A recent trip to the countryside allowed Adam to experience a freedom he has never been allowed before. With continued support from lessons in-house, Adam will eventually be able to enter mainstream education, to make friends and gain qualifications to carve out his own path in life.
The money raised by Radio 4 listeners will help to pay for a Children’s Support Worker for a year; who will help trafficked children to access vital trauma counselling, keep them safe and ultimately work towards a happy future.
Thank you once again to 91热爆 Radio 4’s listeners for taking a stand against child trafficking. You inspire all we do.
