Health workers are at the centre of what we do. Without them there is no healthcare and millions of us would have nowhere to turn to.”
Thank you to everyone who so generously donated to our Appeal narrated by Dame Julie Walters. The Appeal told the story of Hawa, a young mother who lives in rural Somaliland, where 40% of women do not survive pregnancy and childbirth. After a complication during her pregnancy, Hawa received an emergency C-Section and was able to return home with a healthy baby girl thanks to life-saving support from Saed, a qualified nurse, and Dr Khalil, a medical doctor, who both took part in THET’s training programme in emergency obstetric and newborn care.
Through the Appeal we raised an incredible £13,135. Your donations are enabling us to continue working to create a world where everyone, everywhere, has access to quality healthcare by training and educating health workers in low- and middle-income countries across Africa and Asia.
Shortly after our Appeal, in February 2020, the impact of COVID-19 began to be felt around the world, making it clearer than ever that health workers are on the front-lines of ensuring our health.
The messages and letters of encouragement that we received from both new and existing supporters strengthen our determination to redouble our efforts to support health workers across the world. The story of Hawa and Saed is one which will forever characterise our work as a charity and thanks to you will continue to be joined by many more.
